Students will examine trade routes that led to the exchange of new products and ideas among China, Rome, and other lands using primary and secondary sources. |
DUE (by end of class):
Complete Module 6, Lesson 5: The Silk Road (in HMH). |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Log into HMH and open the lesson called Module 6, Lesson 5: The Silk Road.
- As soon as you come to class, open the lesson and complete the first page “If you were there…”
- Shared reading and map and visual analysis on the following two pages: Expansion of Trade and Trade Along the Silk Road
- Primary Source Investigation: Chinese Interaction with Rome.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9
OBJECTIVE:
Students will examine the impact of the Silk Road, focusing on the exchange of new products and ideas among China, Rome, and other lands using a Google Slides presentation and video to guide their learning. |
DUE (Wednesday by end of class):
Complete The Silk Road Guided Notes in Google class. |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Go to Google Classroom and open the assignment called The Silk Road Guided Notes.
- Click on the link at the top of the google doc to watch a video about the movement of goods and ideas through the Silk Road.
- As you watch the video, take notes by filling in the sentences on the google doc. You can also view the presentation slides in the Google Classroom assignment.
- Remember to turn the caption (CC) on on the video and pause as needed to complete your notes.
- If you finish early, you should finish the HMH lesson from yesterday.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10
OBJECTIVE:
Students will read an article to identify details about the silk road, highlighting relevant information while reading, in order to answer a set of summary and analysis comprehension questions. |
DUE (by end of class):
The Silk Road Comprehension in Google class. |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Watch THIS video to learn about how the ancient world became connected through the Silk Road.
- Go to Google Classroom and open the assignment called The Silk Road Comprehension.
- Once the doc is open, begin by reading the questions on the last page.
- We will read the article and answer the first couple of questions together. While reading, remember to highlight relevant details. Then you will answer the remaining questions independently. Remember, not all of the questions are answered directly; you will need to understand the reading to make inferences about some of the questions.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11

Students will analyze four documents to answer the big question: How did the Silk Road facilitate the spread of trade and promote cultural diffusion (the spread of cultural practices, beliefs, food, etc.)? |

INSTRUCTIONS:
- Go to Google Classroom and open the assignment called The Silk Road DBI.
- Together, we will analyze four different sources to help answer the big question: How did the Silk Road facilitate the spread of trade and promote cultural diffusion (the spread of cultural practices, beliefs, food, etc.)?
- Then, you will independently answer the big question on the last page.
