OBJECTIVE:
Students will examine details around the rise and fall of the Qin Dynasty. They will analyze the role of government in society and identify Qin achievements. |
DUE (by end of class):
Complete Module 6, Lesson 3: The Qin Dynasty (in HMH). |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Log into HMH and open the lesson called Module 6, Lesson 3: The Qin Dynasty.
- As soon as you come to class, open the lesson and complete the first page “If you were there…”
- Watch Bad Omens and Shi Huangdi (this is on the HMH Lesson 3 Enrichment page). Shi Huangdi, like many people of his time, believed in omens. Omens are events that are regarded as predictions of things to come, both good and bad. People in ancient times believed that omens were a divine message from the gods.
Respond in chat or verbally: Do you think the belief in omens helped or hurt the ancient Chinese people? - Shared reading and map analysis of The Qin Emperor’s Strong Government. Answer the Reading Check question at the bottom in at least 2-5 sentences.
- On the next page, A Unified China, read the section about Qin Achievements. In the chat, write about one achievement that you think was most important to the Qin Dynasty.
- If time, watch the video (3 min) at the bottom of the page called The First Emperor of China.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2
OBJECTIVE:
Students will examine details around the rise and fall of the Han Dynasty. They will analyze the role of government and family life in society and daily life. |
DUE (Wednesday by end of class):
Complete the first two pages of Module 6, Lesson 4: The Han Dynasty (in HMH). |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Watch this video about the Qin Dynasty, which we learned about yesterday and the Han Dynasty, which we’ll learn about today. While watching, write in chat at least TWO things about the Qin Dynasty mentioned in the video that you remember from our lesson yesterday.
- Log into HMH and open the lesson called Module 6, Lesson 4: The Han Dynasty.
- As soon as you come to class, open the lesson and complete the first page “If you were there…”
- Today, we’ll read two pages: The Han Dynasty Government and Family Life.
- Do NOT click “I’m done” after today’s lesson. We’ll finish the lesson tomorrow in class.

OBJECTIVE:
Students will identify multiple lasting achievements of the Han Dynasty and ancient China. Then, they will write one paragraph to describe their favorite achievement using a list of questions to guide their writing. |

INSTRUCTIONS:
- Log into HMH and open the lesson called Module 6, Lesson 4: The Han Dynasty.
- Watch this video to learn about the lasting achievements of China. Listen carefully, and be prepared to discuss at least two achievements named in the video.
- Shared reading of Han Achievements.
- Now go to Google Classroom and open the assignments called Han Achievements.
- On the Google Doc, you will write one complete paragraph (5-7 sentences) about your favorite ancient Chinese achievement that we discussed today. Use the questions to guide your thinking and writing.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4
OBJECTIVE:
Students will read about the history of silk making in Ancient China, then watch a short video to compare how silk is made now. Then, they will produce an infographic to show the process of making silk. |

- Log into Google Classroom and open the assignment called Silk & Ancient China.
