OBJECTIVE:
Understand and identify the basic components of a poem (as line, stanza, rhyme scheme, perfect rhyme, near rhyme, and internal rhyme). |
DUE:
No work due today other than participation. You may start your Limerick poem which is due Friday, January 29th. |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- You have two personal quizzes this Thursday, January 28th. One will be on Speaker, Tone, and Mood from Week 1. Study those terms again. The second quiz will be on Poem Basics which we are reviewing today. Study these notes this week too. Your quiz score will affect your class grade. Do your best to study each week and give full attention in class as we practice together.
- Review Poem Basics Terms and Poem Basics Packet. Find these two documents in my ELA resource folder. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1mQVIYlAgePWUeP4Ne_w5Nwb5IbpKyQJ2?usp=sharing
- Students respond verbally, or in chat, to check-for-understanding questions throughout the terms and packet review.
- Review the directions for My Limerick assignment on Google Class. You will write your own limerick poem by Friday, January 29th.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 26
OBJECTIVE:

INSTRUCTIONS:
- Open the Poem Basics Terms and Poem Basics Packet. Find these two documents in my ELA resource folder. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1mQVIYlAgePWUeP4Ne_w5Nwb5IbpKyQJ2?usp=sharing
- Use these notes to go through the Poem Basics Whole Group Practice on Google class.
- We will review this practice together. Try on your own first, then we will go over the questions.
- Submit Poem Basics Whole Group Practice after we review together.
- Login through Clever. Select CommonLit. Look at the poem: Masks by Shel Silverstein
- We will work through these together. You will try to answer first then we will review the answers together before you submit.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27
OBJECTIVE:
Demonstrate proficiency in identifying Sentence or Fragments from fragments and run-on sentences. Demonstrate proficiency in identifying plural nouns from possessive nouns. |
DUE (By end of class Wednesday, Jan. 27th):
See No Red Ink. 1) Sentence or Fragments Pretest. 2) Plural v. Possessive Nouns Pretest. If you score below 80% or a 3 on either test, then you must do the Sentence or Fragment Practice and the Plural v. Possessive Nouns Practice. |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Login to Clever. Select No Red Ink.
- Take the Sentence or Fragment Pretest.
- Take the Possessive v. Plural Nouns Pretest.
- If you score an 80% (a 3) or higher, then you do not have to do the practice lessons.
- If you score lower than 80% on the Sentence or Fragment Pretest, then you must complete the Sentence or Fragment Practice on No Red Ink.
- If you score lower than 80% on Plural v. Possessive Nouns Pretest, then you must complete the Plural v. Possessive Nouns Practice.
- You will see a score in Illuminate for Sentence or Fragments and one for Plural v. Possessive Nouns. If you scored high enough on the pretests, you will receive a grade. If you score lower than 80% on the pretests, then you must do the practice lessons to receive a grade.
- I do not expect you to have to pass every pretest. These are just so those that know the grammar well do not have to do extra work.
- You can of course do the NRI practice lessons for extra practice even if you pass the pretests.
- If you finish early, work on your limerick, study for the quizzes tomorrow, read poetry, or journal your own poetry.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 28
OBJECTIVE:
Use analysis and critical thinking to identify the Speaker, Tone, and Mood within a poem or other literature. Demonstrate understanding and be able to identify Poem Basics as line, stanza, rhyme scheme, perfect rhyme, near rhyme, end rhyme, and internal rhyme. |
DUE (By end of class Thursday, January 28th):
Take the Google quiz entitled: Speaker, Tone, Mood Personal Quiz. Take the quiz entitled: Poem Basics Personal Quiz. |
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Log into No Red Ink. Remember, you must go through Clever to sign into No Red Ink.
- Do the assignment Adjective Review. There are 3 practice lessons.
- We will review the lessons and practice ones before you begin. This will make the lessons easier and go quicker for you.
- Ask me to work out any in class as needed. I will guide you. Come to tutoring today as needed for support if you do not finish.
